The 2023-2024 Concerto/Aria Competition will be held on January 12 and 13, 2024
The Concerto/Aria Competition is open to current Undergraduate and Graduate students at the University of Alabama.
Register for the Competition
The deadline to register is December 15th, 2023 at 11:59 pm CT.
Preliminary Round (January 12):
Candidates will play/sing a 12-minute selection of the candidate’s choice, performed with piano accompaniment. There will be a maximum of 30 time slots, between 10 am and 5 pm, as chosen by the faculty.
There will be a limit to the number of applicants, as follows:
- Woodwinds- 6 students total
- Brass & Percussion- 7 students total
- Strings- 6 students total
- Piano/Keyboard- 6 students total
- Voice- 6 students total
Final Round (January 13):
The entire concerto must be performed with piano accompaniment. We will hear the candidates from each category that the judges have determined should play again.
Maximum number of finalists: 6, a mix of all areas.
There will be a maximum of two winners who will play or sing with the Huxford Symphony Orchestra
Candidates must provide copies of the score (piano score or full score) for the judges
